ChatGPT Joins the Team: Uber Drivers Now Have an AI Helper
San Francisco, CA – Uber, the worldwide ride-sharing company, is changing how drivers work by adding an AI helper using ChatGPT. This advanced technology is designed to make rides smoother and safer, and to give drivers a more helpful and interesting partner.
Uber said at the London event called Go-Get Zero that it would introduce to drivers from early next year an AI assistant on its platforms backed by OpenAI's GPT-4o. However, at launch, the AI assistant would only be available to U.S. drivers. Basically, it is going to be a companion for EV drivers in answering questions like "Where are the nearest charging stations?" or "Which EV is the best to buy these days?" Eventually, it will be able to respond to more complex questions with a later update in the same year.
The assistant will respond accordingly with respect to the demand of the driver, the city where he is, and government incentives if available. The AI assistant in Uber can be accessed directly from the home screen of its driver app.
According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the assistant will update regularly and will help make its use in as many scenarios as possible. The company also plans to add talkback to the AI assistant, which, according to the company, will allow drivers to communicate with each other textually and vocally, making it possible for the assistant to respond as well.
This is the new AI assistant, which will be in the Uber driver app. The AI assistant is designed to provide a range of helpful features that are made to make the ride and the customer-to-driver interaction more efficient. Some of the notable features that it can provide include:
Real-time Route Optimization: The AI would be suggesting the most optimum routes based on traffic, road closures, and more, thereby reducing the fuel consumption and conserving the time of the driver.
Personalized recommendation: the preferences of drivers will be learned by the AI and will be able to suggest restaurants or attractions to recommend to passengers.
Customer support: With the AI, many common driver questions could be answered and it could also provide troubleshooting hints, therefore less need for human intervention.
It will provide real-time language translation for drivers in case they need to communicate with passengers who speak different languages; this way, it will improve the experience that flows from the ride.
