Google Partners with MediaTek for Next-Gen AI Chips: A Strategic Move in AI Innovation
Google will be partnering with MediaTek on its next-generation AI chip, enhancing AI power and expanding chip suppliers.

Google is said to be gearing up to partner with Taiwan's MediaTek for the next generation of its AI chips, namely Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), sources with knowledge of the project said. The strategic tie-up will see Google improve its AI capabilities at a lower cost, given MediaTek's close relationship with TSMC and aggressive pricing.Despite this advancement, Google continues to partner with Broadcom, it's only TPU vendor for years
The partnership is part of Google's overall goal of cementing its position in the AI race by expanding its chip vendors and decreasing its dependence on NvidiaGoogle's TPUs are optimized for neural network use cases and are the backbone of its AI research and cloud services. Google unveiled its sixth generation TPU last year, offering a competitor to Nvidia's market-leading chips.
MediaTek's proficiency in edge AI use cases and recent developments like the Dimensity 9300 chipset, featuring on-device generative AI capabilities, also underscores the company's increasing contribution to AI innovation. This collaboration could open doors to sophisticated AI solutions for a range of areas such as smartphones, IoT devices, and cloud computing.
