Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will unveil three AI centers of excellence on October 15
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will declare three Artificial Intelligence (AIA) Centers of supremacy on October 15, 2024 in New Delhi. The program is part of the wide vision of a "Viksit Bharat" or developed India. This focus is to develop India's capabilities in key areas such as health, agriculture and more sustainable cities.
Purpose and structure of the IA center
The new CoE, led by leading academic institutions, will be introduced in collaboration with industry partners and startups. These are the main objectives to achieve
Interdisciplinary Research
Centers focus on conducting groundbreaking research that integrates multiple disciplines. to face real-world challenges
Innovative applications
Innovative applications of IA to develop efficiency improvements with better outcomes in healthcare, agriculture and urban sustainability.
Scalable Solutions
Developing solutions that can be scaled to impact large populations and industries.
This initiative is in line with the government's vision of building"Make AI in India and Make AI Work for India,". As per the proposal in the Ordination Notification for FY 2023-24, financial expenditure of Rs 990 million has been allocated for the Center for FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28123.
Expected Impact on the Major Sectors
Healthcare: The CoEs would use AI for predictive analytics and diagnostics, thereby considerably bettering patient care and public health management.
Agriculture: AI will focus on optimizing crop yields to reduce waste, shedding excess inventory, and making supply chains easier through data precision.
Sustainable Cities: The centres will focus on developing smart transportation systems, efficient waste management solutions, and energy-efficient urban infrastructures, promoting sustainable urbanization across India.
Governance and Oversight
An apex committee has been constituted to ensure effective implementation of this initiative. The committee is chaired by Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation. The apex committee will provide a platform for the CoEs to operate, enable academia, industry leaders, and startup interactions.
